Doctors of the World London to Paris Bike Ride

Bike from London to Paris to catch the Tour de France Arrival
Doctors of the World UK 22nd-25th July 2010
Following the huge success of our sponsored bike ride in 2009, Doctors of the World UK (Médecins du Monde) is calling for more adventurous cyclists to sign up for the fifth London to Paris Bike Ride 2010. This incredible three-day challenge covers almost 190 miles of stunningly colourful countryside and reaches Paris in time to see the professionals peddle up the Champs-Elysées.
Riders from the UK will be joined by a team from the French HQ bringing an international flavour to the event.
Cycling enthusiast Lizzie Finlayson says it is a fabulous experience: “It was the most
amazing achievement of my life – tremendous camaraderie, team spirit, sense of humour and commitment. Brilliant team support finishing in a stunning last few hours”
Anna McKittrick summarized her experience in a few words: “Such a fabulous experience – really good fun but also challenging. The team spirit was fantastic and spurred everyone on. Very well organized – lovely friendly organisers.”
The team leaves London on Thursday 22 July, arriving at the Eiffel Tower in Paris by late afternoon on Saturday 24 July. Cyclists can rest their tired legs on Sunday 25 July, sightsee or watch the final stages of the Tour de France at the Champs Elysées returning home by Eurostar.
The funds raised will be used to provide medical care to vulnerable people through our projects around the world who are touched by natural disasters like the recent earthquake in Haiti, conflict, like our ongoing emergency mission in Iraq, or extreme poverty like our HIV/AIDS prevention project in Myanmar (Burma). As well as helping those further afield, Doctors of the World also runs projects in developed countries, including here in London, where our volunteer led Project:L ondon clinic helps marginalised people who cannot access mainstream healthcare services.
Participants pay a £99 Registration Fee, then pledge to raise a min. of £1,100 in sponsorship funds which covers all the trip costs.
