The Curzon Mayfair, a Grade II listed building, voted by Time Out readers as one of London's top 20 cinemas
, has undergone extensive refurbishment with the construction of a brand new stylish bar area and an expanded foyer. The Cinema's opening in February also sees the birth of an extra screen - the original 542 seat auditorium being split into two, seating 320 and an intimate 83 respectively.
Reflecting the highest standards of independent and international art-house film since it originally opened in 1934, the family-owned Cinema has been instrumental in the progression of the British and international film industry. The Curzon Mayfair was one of the first cinemas to import and show foreign language films in the UK, reputedly causing the introduction of the X-certificate to the UK as a result of the release of Max Ophuls' 'La Ronde'. The Cinema has also played host to many significant film premieres throughout its sixty-six year history.
The Curzon Mayfair proves a popular meeting place for both the residents and working population of Mayfair for whom the potent cocktail of modern design mixed with historical atmosphere.
