Children’s Laureat Michael Rosen will launch the festival on Wednesday 5 December with a performance of his inimitable one-man show, followed by a on-stage discussion between prize-winning French author Daniel Pennac and British illustrator Quentin Blake. That same evening an exihibition of artwork from Blake’s latest project, Vive nos vieux jours!, will open in the Institut’s library and foyer area.
Thursday 6 and Friday 7 December are reserved for school parties, but the festival’s closing day, Saturday 8 December, is open to the general public. Grown-ups are invited to participate in a special edition of the Institut’s ‘Café Philo’ series; children and adults can stock up on Christmas presents from the temporary bilingual bookshop in the Institut’s foyer and have them signed by the visiting authors and illustrators, catch a film, or see children’s singer-songwriter Sophie Forte live in concert.
Sophie Forte sings songs both light-hearted and moving about love (Ma soeur est amoureuse), bad behaviour (Maman dit qu’il ne faut pas), make-believe (Ma cabane en bois), little every-day problems (Chic j’suis malade), and serious subjects like death (Grand-père est au cimetière). This is a show for all the family: children from 4 years or over, elder sisters and brothers, parents and grandparents
• Patate: five shorts illustrating the graphic and narrative inventiveness of contemporary French animation, involving variously a journey in search of stars, a genie in a box of ravioli, four vegetables forgotten in a kitchen garden, a cat, parrot, a fish and an immense château.

• U: a feature-length cartoon from France, based on the book by acclaimed children’s author Grégoire Solotareff. U the unicorn becomes a confidante and companion to melancholy Princess Mona. But when Mona finds love, will their friendship survive?
• Raining Cats and Frogs (La Prophétie des grenouilles): two quick-thinking children save the population of their local zoo from the floods by improvising an ark. A delightful feature-length animation old in a joyful picture-book style, with characters further brought to life by a voice cast drawn from some of France’s best-loved acting talent.
