French Pianist Helene Grimaud at The Royal Festival Hall
23/11/2010
23rd November 2010
7.30pm
Dubbed 'red hot' by The New York Times, Hélène Grimaud is a pianist with a difference. She expresses her vivid personality and passionate playing in this performance of piano classics drawn from across 200 years. Mozart's A minor Piano Sonata is a work of tremendous energy that feels much ahead of its day. Berg's Piano Sonata stems from the heady yet unsettling atmosphere of early 20th-century Vienna, intensely emotional and tightly wrought. Liszt's Sonata in B minor is one of the iconic pieces of its time - a virtuoso tone-poem in one gigantic movement, that feels full of narrative drama. To close, Bartók's Romanian Dances brings the irresistible exoticism of Transylvanian folk music into the concert hall.
