The setting of this film is as usual Marseilles where Marcel Pagnol grew up and began to work as a teacher. THe story: Orsane, a peasant girl is abandoned by her lover and heads for the city where she has their baby. Unfortunately in order to survive she has to become a prostitute. A complex story develops into a representation of feminism within a realistic docudrama that was well ahead of its time.
