At the stroke of midnight on the third Thursday of November, the whole of France erupts in a massive celebration in honour of the unveiling (or should we say uncorking) of the Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais Nouveau is a very young wine since it is only 6-weeks old when dunk for the first time. It comes from an area located south of the Burgundy region.

It is rumoured that the light-bodied and fruity wine must be all drunk by Christmas.  However, the French government has put regulations delaying its release until the third week of November which perhaps explains why its arrival is so warmly welcomed in France. All over the country, it is a tradition to get together to discover the Beaujolais Nouveau.
