2008 has already been a fantastic year for Yael Naim – her single ‘New Soul’ released earlier this year to a wealth of critical acclaim and featured on the MacBook Air advert, enjoyed Top 40 chart success in the UK following its digital release, and more than eight weeks in the Official UK Singles Chart. This successful track made her the third French artist ever to enter the UK Charts!
‘New Soul’ is taken from the eponymous album Yael Naim (Atlantic), a disarmingly unique and rich collection of songs.
This fabulous album is born from the meeting of Paris-born, Israeli-raised Yael Naim, and David Donatien, a West Indian drummer. The two sat down to share their rich musical experiences, combining Yael’s classical education and love of pop and jazz. This collaboration lead into recording 13 beautifully arranged compositions, with instrumentation of piano, guitar, cello, bass and percussion. While the mood ranges from melancholic to sweeter and hopeful notes, she carries intimate feeling throughout her songs with an unsettlingly pure voice.
Yael’s enchanting live show is suitably reflective of the incredible artistic dexterity displayed throughout the album, as proven at her iTunes Festival and Scala appearances in London earlier this year.
With a multi-coloured collection of ballads sung in French, Hebrew and
English, she comes back for the Londoners' pleasure for two headline
shows, at Pigalle Club, Sept. 9th & 10th.
