Two of the best loved and most successful French films ever made Yves Robert’s La
Gloire de Mon Pere and its sequel Le Chateau de Ma Mere will be released for the first time ever as a two-disc box set and its first ever UK Blu-ray release.

Based on the childhood memoirs of Marcel Pagnol the author of Jean De Florette and
Manon Des Sources, these timeless classics stand as one of cinema’s greatest celebrations of childhood, filled with warmth, love and a poignant nostalgia for bygone
days they continue to captivate audiences.

The films will be released in both DVD and Blu-ray formats as sumptuous two-disc sets,
complete with superb special features, on 5 November 2012 courtesy of Second Sight
Films.

An adult Marcel nostalgically recalls idyllic retreats with his family to the hills of Provence.

His love affair with the country began and during those perfect days he found new respect for his school-teacher father as he adapted to life away from the city, while the long journey there would soon bring its own adventures.

Even the youngest person reading this irrespective of Nationality should need no introduction to Marcel Pagnol whose great early trilogy - Marius, Fanny, Cesar - remains one of the jewels in the crown of French cinema and is currently being remade by Daniel Auteuil. Though far from prolific in the sense that his great contemporaries - Jean Renoir, Julien Duvivier, Rene Clair and Marcel Carne - Pagnol did leave a fine legacy, Schpountz, La fille du puisatier (recently remade by Daniel Auteuil) and arguably finest of all La Femme de Boulanger which no great a filmmaker as Orson Welles described as the finest film ever made and leading man Raimu one of the finest actors.
When he published his autobiography Pagnol proved no less adept between hard covers and Yves Roberts extracted two unforgettable films bursting with charm and nostalgia from it in the shape of La Gloire de mon pere and Le Chateau de ma mere which will enhance anyone's dvd collection of French films.
