London Jazz Festival

London's annual celebration of jazz is back in the huge international city that is London. Following last year's successful French Focus, the London Jazz Festival, in partnership with The French Music Office, Institut Francais and Sacem have picked up where they left off with a stunning new line up of 16 fresh French artists for the 2011 edition.

The French heir of motown which you may have caught on Later... With Jools Holland on the 18th of October. With a self titled debut album 'Ben L'Oncle Soul' out on Wrasse Records in July, this artist is set to take the UK by storm.

The surreal and anarchic playfulness of piano/drums duo Donkey Monkey along with the punky Balkanesqye accordion, drums and baritone sax-driven tunes of Melosolex will constitute the free French stage on the 13th.

IRèNE: IRèNE’s compositions and concerts are comparable to a cinematic drama, mixing contemporary experimental jazz with alt rock and electronic music. IRèNE also just recently won the extremely prestigious National Jazz competition at La Défense (best band & best composition).
Metal-O-Phone: Founding member of the COAX Collective, MeTal-O-PHoNe take jazz, gamelan, rock, improvised and repetitive music for inspiration. If Steve Reich joined Battles this is probably what it would sound like.
Pipeline: A laid back melancholic take on the New York downtown scene.

The world renowned accordionist his La Strada Quintet will pay tribute to revered film composer, Nino Rota, whose iconic scores include Fellini’s La Dolce Vita and 8½ and Coppola’s The Godfather.
