Le Festival du Film Français à Londres - 2011

From 09/11/2011 at 20:40 to 27/11/2011 at 18:00

The 19th French Film Festival presents an unparalleled selection of cinéma français, returning this year to Ciné Lumière, in association with several other leading cinemas around the country. There are a wealth of genres to suit all tastes and impressive performances from an array of stellar names and emerging talents.

Ciné Lumière will welcome Daniel Auteuil for the UK Première of The Well Digger's Daughter ( La fille du Puisatier) on Friday 11 November, courtesy of Pathé. With this film, shot in perpetual sunshine and superbly scored by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech), Daniel Auteuil returns to the familiar and beloved territory of Marcel Pagnol's work, this time as director but also mastering beautifully the role of the peasant father on screen.

On 9 November Jean-Pierre Améris will attend the preview screening of his film, Romantics Anonymous, an exquisite romantic comedy starring Isabelle Carré and Benoît Poelvoorde to be released by Picturehouse Entertainment. Some of you will have seen it at the London's Favourite French Film Award Night.

Stirring up a flurry of media attention in France, writer-director Xavier Durringer's political farce The Conquest chronicles President Nicolas Sarkozy's rise to power. The themes of power and politics are also tackled in Alain Cavalier's latest film Pater in which he stars alongside Vincent Lindon filming themselves as they pretend to be businessmen-politicians campaigning for office.

André Téchiné is back with Unforgivable, a luminous and atmospheric adaptation of Philippe Djian's novel while Jacques Perrin plunges us deep into the sublime and mysterious world of the sea, signing another breathtaking documentary with Oceans.

Angelina Maccarone's engaging documentary The Look places the spotlight on Charlotte Rampling, in a free-wheeling tête-à-tête offering a fascinating portrait of the actress whose career spans half a century.

Audiences at Ciné Lumière will also have a chance to see All the Suns, with Stefano Accorsi and Anouk Aimée, Philippe Claudel's second feature after his hugely acclaimed I've Loved You So Long.

Finally the Institut français has cause to celebrate the arrival of Christophe Honoré's eagerly awaited The Beloved, as part of the film was shot here in the vicinity! An overt homage to Jacques Demy, The Beloved, the closing choice for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, stars Catherine Deneuve, Chiara Mastroianni, Ludivine Sagnier and Louis Garrel. Christophe Honoré will be present for a Q&A after the screening on 18 November.

The French Film Festival UK runs from 9 November to 7 December in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Warwick, Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee, Dumfries and Stirling.
