French Passions : Geoff Dyer on Camus
Forget existentialism. Think sensuality.
Geoff Dyeris the author of four novels, the latest one being the most beautiful and extraordinarily successful Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi. He has also published seven non-fiction books, including Working the Room, out in paperback in August 2011, But Beautiful, a book about jazz which was awarded the Somerset Maugham Prize and is now considered a classic, and Out of Sheer Rage, which was a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist. He is a regular contributor to many publications in the UK and the US.

David Nichollstrained as an actor before making the switch to writing. As a writer for film and TV, he has twice been nominated for BAFTA awards. He is the author of three novels, including One Day, which was published in hardback in 2009 to wide critical acclaim, and remained on the Sunday Times top ten bestseller list for ten weeks following publication.

Min-Jung Kym, Piano
To open our Classical Tuesdays series, we are pleased to welcome the young Korean pianist Min-Jung Kym. Min-Jung has acquired a widely recognised reputation for her diverse range of styles and repertoire as a soloist, duo and chamber musician. She made her London solo concert debut at the age of twelve with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and after her studies at the Royal Academy of Music, she has performed in the USA, Europe and throughout the UK. She has played at venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, and has also appeared at the Cheltenham Festival and Broadwood International Piano Festival. She has performed Beethoven Concerto No.4 to great critical acclaim with the Philharmonia Orchestra. She has regular collaborations with musicians such as the Haffner Ensemble, Pierre Amoyal and Adrian Brendel.

Our series starts with the great Carducci Quartet, recognised as one of today’s most successful young string quartets. Passionate about taking classical music to the next generation, the Carducci Quartet performs in many pretigious venues in the UK and worldwide.

Les 400 Coups by François Truffaut, a landmark film from French cinema heritage, will be shown on a restored version over the weekend, as part of the Sunday French Classics series.
