Feedback on First ever ''Fête de la Musique'' in London

Bravo ! - for the initiative, and for importing one of France's best inventions. We usually try to be in France for the Fete - so this was agood consolation prize. The first prize has to go to the Goethe institute - they had the bonus of the setting, but also the chutzpah of the presentation, and the music itself, was excellent. The only problem there, though, was that there was too much ! As many as three acts going on at any one time, at the same venue really does spoil one for choice. I felt that it was a shame that the Institut Francais missed a trick in not utilising the courtyard better- surely an ideal setting for the fete ? Imperial College had a great setting, fantastic music, but under-utilised it in terms of the amount of music played - just compare it to the Goethe. The Serpentine gallery also had a great setting, but missed out on an opportunity to serve refreshments - again, look to Imperial - comparing with the Goethe or IF would be invidious, as they already have catering already on site. The Serpentine also suffered from appalling delays - as did the Natural History Museum - and atrocious venue for noise and accoustics. LAst word, though, must be a big "merci" to Ricard - a glass of Ricard always transports me to France - I could almost have been on Bendor ! Well done for all of the great efforts of all involved, and roll on next year ! Regards, Nigel |
