Seconde Partie des Victoires de la Musique 2011 : Les Résultats

By Matthieu Boisseau
02/03/2011

The second part of the 2011 French Music Awards Ceremony 'Les Victoires de la Musique' was held yesterday at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. This year, in order to give the admittedly long and boring ceremony a spring clean, the organizers decided to split it into two shorter shows, the first one awarding the best artists of the year in specific categories as well as  best new talents (see article), and the other one bestowing honours on the best artists, tours, music videos of all categories, drawing its inspiration from the oh-so-glamourous Grammy Awards.

Gaetan Roussel was undoubtedly the star of this year ceremony, as he received three awards (including two yesterday).

 List of award winners :

Best Male Artist of the Year : Gaëtan Roussel

The first solo album released by the singer of Tarmac and Louise Attaque has really been a huge success, with about 100,000 copies sold.

Best Female Artist of the Year : Yaël Naim

This is the second time the sweet 33-year old  pop singer has received a Victoire. She made a successful come-back this year with her latest album She was a boy.

Best Tour of the Year : Matthieu Chedid and Eddy Mitchell

Surprisingly enough, two artists have been awarded : Matthieu Chedid's for his  'Mister Mystère' tour (including an awesome performance at the 02 Shepherd's Bush Empire one month ago) and crooner Eddy Mitchell for his last serie of concerts at the Olympia.

Best Music Video : La Banane - Philippe Katerine - 'La Banane'

The oddball of French music is awarded for his wild and hilarious video.

Philippe Katherine - Non mais laissez moi manger ma banane

Best Original Song of the Year : Zaz - 'Je Veux'

Husky voiced Zaz has released her debut album this year, and that was a triumph, with 500 000 copies sold over 20 countries.

Best Album of the Year : Gaëtan Roussel - 'Ginger'

It is entirely fair as Ginger is a rock marvel, in the vein of Louise Attaque biggest hits.
