Golfs in France

France, a land of golf, has over 500 golf courses and still more are being designed. Courses have been created here by the top architects: Robert Trent Jones Snr & Jnr, Nicklaus, Hawtree, Pete Dye, Gary Player, Robert Von Hagge, Ronald Fream, Tom Simpson, Peter Alliss. From fairways overlooking the sea to glistening snow-covered peaks. From courses which challenge the most experienced golfers, to others which host the most famous trophies. They all offer an opportunity to experience the joys of the game and to discover the French art-de-vivre.

Paris- Ile de france

It is a privilege to play golf in Île-de-France. The courses are tucked away among the most beautiful sites of the Region, and most are accessible whatever your handicap.
After the game, another life awaits you. Wander down the Champs-Élysées, have a drink in a café in Saint-Germain-des- Prés among the fashionable and literary set, follow in the footsteps of the Sun King among the fountains of the Château de Versailles, or take a fresh look at the landscapes of the Impressionists at Auvers-sur-Oise and Barbizon.

Forges les Bains:

Selected as Parisian site for the famous David-Leadbetter Golf Academy, 18 holes with lots of variety in a natural layout through the gentle slopes of woods and meadows of the valley of Chevreuse. Requiring alternatively distance and precision, but without major difficulties, it is suitable for all kinds of golfer.

Golf National:

Golf National Club is the Home of the French Open, and a candidate for the Ryder Cup 2009. Recently voted as the fourth best course in Europe, the Albatross is unanimously acclaimed as one of the very best tests of golf by the European Tour. Built in 1990, on the flat farming land, the architect has designed a stadium links course that golfers of all abilities.
A stadium links course featuring several water hazards ,make the Albatross a stern test from the back tees. From the forward tess, the player must position the tee shot on the correct side of the fairway in order to leave themselves the best approach. A good example of this is the 15th hole, where a tee shot aimed away from the water on the right hand side can result in a four club difference for the second shot, which incidentally is to an island green!

South-West

Do you dream of playing golf in completely natural surroundings? Welcome to Limousin, land of mills and of porcelain. How about combining golf, culture and gastronomy?

Moliets

This remarkable course was laid in the pine forests of Les Landes (for 13 holes) and along the coast (5 holes). A typical Robert Trent Jones design, where the technical and strategic challenges reflect an in-depth knowledge of golf.
While the more proficient golfer will find this a tough challenge, playing from the forward tees is funnily enough, often more conducive to error. The famous jagged bunkers are a remarkable form of defence for the greens, three of which are virtually blind, and the putting surfaces are neatly but never excessively contoured.

Course: 18 holes: 6.173 m - par 72 and 9 holes: 1905 m, par 31
Rates: High Season: 57,20 € ( under 18: 28,60 €), Middle Season: 46,30 € ( 22,70€)

Arcachon

In a region of British tradition, architects Blandford and Pierre Hirigoyen laid out a subdued golf course, which embraces but never disrupts the hilly terrain on the front nine and the flatter holes around the back. The broken relief means that the second shot to a number of elevated greens is not leaving the driver in the bag.
Arcachon Golf Course is a short one , where precision is more often better rewarded then length off the tee.

Course: 18 holes: 6.014 m - par 72
Rates: High Season: Week end 46 €, weekdays 46 € Low Season: WE: 31€, WD: 27€

From the luxury hotels of Deauville to the beaches of the D-Day Landings, the golf  courses of Normandy are verdant. Mont-Saint-Michel looks out onto Brittany, its legends, its renowned marine spa treatments and its golf courses suspended among moors and rocks. Further south, the golf courses are swept by the Atlantic breeze, which fill the sails of yachts too, if you fancy giving sailing a go. On the banks of the Loire, the châteaux recount the History of France, so why not play some royal golfand then sample the wines of Touraine.

Granville:

A superb links, one of the best in France ! Nestling among the dunes by the sea, this is an authentic links whose rugged, natural character has remained little changed during its 90 plus year history. The mild climate ensures excellent playing conditions with good greens and dry fairways all year round on this traditional Scottish style course where the true challenge is provided by the wind. The course was updated to its present layout in 1999 as part of a drive to develop golf in France.

Houlgate:

Located in typical Normandy-hedgerow-country and just a few minutes from the town of Deauville, this undulating golf course offers superb scenery, especially the panoramic view from the 15th. With a reputation for great year-round conditions, Houlgate starts off tightly, with some very precise iron play required through trees and over lots of water. The 6,124 yard, par 71 layout then opens out to reveal those fantastic views.
One of our favourites ever.

Méribel:

Méribel, one of  Savoie's ski stations and siutated in the Trois Vallées, is located at the doors of the Vanoise National Park.  Set in this mountain environment with fir forests lining the fairway, the 9-hole golf course became operational in 1978, extended to 18 holes between 1986 and 1990
The course varies in altitude from about 1600m up to 1800m.  Many of the holes are flanked by tall pine trees giving the course a sense of grandeur.  There are spectacular views of the mountains above Meribel as well the valley below.
In Summer 2006, they will have a totally new look: raised tees, undulating fairways and dips, and water cascades. The redesigned 18 holes will thus offer a more homogenous course, which is better integrated in its mountain
