Camille in Concert
30/10/2017 from 19:30 to 22:30
The multi-faceted Parisian reflects upon her country’s politically charged recent history, singing from her new album Ouï.
Anyone who knows Camille will tell you about her gift, an instrument of exhilarating range and phenomenal beauty and power, all crystalline delicacy one moment, roof-off sultriness the next; a sound-maker given to a panoply of clicks and pops, whoops and yelps, oos and ees and whatever else takes her fancy.
Ouï, her fifth studio album, was recorded in a 14th century monastery-turned-artist’s-residence in Avignon. Inspired by the sound of the wind whipping around the cloisters, echoing and reverberating ‘oo-ee…’, it’s a breathless cornucopia of folk, hymns, ballads, pop, lullabies and a capella. ‘All the voices are telling a story,” she says, ‘and I am all the voices‘.
