Elizabeth Sombart and Pierre Valet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall on 12 October
12/10/2016 from 18:30 to 20:30
In typical Wagnerian style, the Tannhäuser Overture encapsulates the drama of this greatly admired opera - with its quasi-Bach chorale opening and dazzling, tormenting middle.
Composed at the mere age of 20, Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 harks back to the likes of Hummel and Mozart whilst including Chopin’s patriotic hallmark, as the finale inhabits the world of Polish folk music.
The concert finishes with Beethoven’s sunny and joyous Fourth Symphony.
- Wagner - Tannhäuser Overture
- Chopin - Piano Concerto No. 2
- Beethoven - Symphony No. 4
