Bastille Festival with the Exchange Theatre at the Drayton Arms Theatre - 21/06 to 17/07

In this year’s programme of the Bastille Festival, the Exchange Theatre will perform a total of eight shows around the main feature! Three invited professional shows by friends of the company (The Three Musketeers, Herve and Yama - Tales of Shonai), four shows presented by their very own amateur dramatics (Un Petit Jeu sans Conséquence, Ailes Blessées, C'est Egal and Amours), and of course, their bilingual adventurous production of The Doctor in Spite of Himself (Le Médecin Malgré Lui), a Breaking Bad version of Molière’s best farce, presented alternately in French and English.

Here is the full programme: 

'The Doctor in Spite of Himself', by Molière (alternatively in French and English)

  • In English: on 21/06, 22/06, 23/06, 01/07, 02/07, 05/07, 06/07, 07/07 and 13/07 at 8pm
  • In French: on 24/06, 25/06, 28/06, 29/06, 30/06, 08/07, 09/07 and 12/07 at 8pm

'Un Petit Jeu sans Conséquence' (in French)

Amdram company will premiere in the UK the famous French success Un Petit Jeu sans Conséquence, an irresistibly sharp comedy in French. 

On 14/07, 15/07 and 16/07 at 7.30pm and on 17/07 at 6pm - Tickets £11

'Ailes Blessées', by Lula Suassuna (in French)

Ailes Blessées will be performed by the Exchange Theatre's most experienced students, for whom actor Lula Suassuna has written and directed a tailor-made play (his first!) about the pursuit of dreams in a very modern drama.

'C'est Egal', based on a story by Agota Kristof (in French)

C'est Egal, by the company's first year students, is a poetic, yet funny play, about being human by Agota Kristof, directed by Yanouchka Wenger Sabbatini (who also acts in the main feature) and performed for the first time in the UK on the 3rd of July.

'Amours', based on a story by Brecht, Molière and Ionesco (in French)

Assembled and directed by notorious director and actress Gaël Le Cornec, Amours is a patchwork of love scenes from Brecht, Molière and Ionesco, for the company's second year students.

'The Three Musketeers' (in English)

Cyphers company present their fast-paced rendition of the adventures of the Three Musketeers.

'Herve' (in English)

The play tells the extraordinary story Herve, a French-African descent and his adoption by a white Belgian couple.

'Yama - Tales of Shonai' (in English and Japanese)

Yama - Tales of Shonai is a bilingual collection of funny Japanese traditional stories presented by Doubtful Sound.

On 11/07 at 8pm - Tickets £14 (£10 concs)
