Boudu is a Parisian tramp who tries to drown himself in the Seine, but is rescued and adopted by a sympathetic bookseller, Mr. Lestingois. Boudu returns the favour by turning Lestingois’ household upside down and seducing both his wife and mistress. One of Renoir’s best-loved films, Boudu celebrates the battle of the human spirit against the stifling aspects of bourgeois civilisation.
