Young idealist Paul (Jean Pierre Léaud) is a leftie who ends up dating aspiring yé-yé singer Madeleine (Chantal Goya). Though she symbolises empty-headed, pop-obsessed youth, the shots of Madeleine in the studio - alongside the references to Dylan and Bond and a cameo by Brigitte Bardot - are the epitome of go-go Paris '66. As Godard says, "This film could be called The Children of Marx and Coca-Cola."
