Paris, 1957, aged only 21, Yves Saint Laurent's life is about to change when he takes over the destinée of the prestigieuse couture house founded by Christian Dior and who has recently died. During his first fashion show, he meets Pierre Bergé who will become both his lover and his business partner. Catapulted to international stardom, Yves Saint Laurent takes the world of fashion by storm with his attempts to democratise fashion against the backdrop of Sixties’ liberation, battling his personal demons to build an empire that would be renowned for liberating women all over the world. Rife with emotional insight into Yves Saint Laurent’s struggles against manic depressive spells and dependency on alcohol, drugs, and his partner Pierre Bergé – admirably played by Guillaume Gallienne – this film provides unique insight into the life of a man who shocked the world of couture and refused to succumb to his critics and self-doubt.
