The First Day of the Rest of Your Life
Review score:
cast: Deborah François, Marc-André Grondin, Jacques Gamblin, Zabou Breitman
year: 2008
colour: yes
certificate: ?
director: Rémi Bezancon
runtime: 114
Nominated for nine Césars, and a smash hit last year at the French box office, Bezancon's engaging, bittersweet drama zooms in on the life of a middle-class French family one character at a time, focusing on five pivotal moments that changed their lives and that of the family as a whole, starting with the day their son Albert (newcomer Pio Marmaï) moves out to live on his own. As events unfold individually for Marie-Jeanne, Robert and their three children, the film shows the consequences on the other members of the family and the way they relate to each other. Respectively playing daughter Fleur and son Raphaël, Déborah François (last seen in /The Page Turner/) and Marc-André Grondin (the heart-throb from the 2005 Canadian hit /C.R.A.Z.Y/)were awarded a 2009 César for Most Promising Actress/Actor.
