In the week that the 2005 Cannes Film Festival prize-winners are announced, Ciné lumière is proud to welcome Agnès b. to introduce the preview screening of a new DVD that takes a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the festival.
Heart of the Festival is a DVD anthology of the highlights from the Cannes Film Festival, compiled by Gilles Jacob, the festival's President since the 1970s, and will be released in the j'aime le cinéma! agnès b. collection. Using stunning archive images, the film tells the history of the festival from its inception in 1946 up until the present day.
Divided into three parts, the film focuses on both the history and glamour of the festival, and on its importance as a showcase for the work of the greatest filmmakers in cinema history. It mixes footage of gala screenings and stars on the Croisette, with in-depth interviews with directors about their art, and about their personal experience of the festival. Heart of the Festival will thus appeal both to hardened film buffs, and to those curious to find out more about this, the most glamourous of film festivals.
Heart of the Festival (Au Coeur du festival) will go on sale in the UK on 13 June of this year. It is distributed by Nova Sales & Distribution.
Limited edition box sets designed by Agnès b. will be on sale in Agnès b. stores from the end of May.
As a designer Agnès b. draws inspiration from life for her collections. As a patron of contemporary art she is passionate and unerring. Under her leadership, the Agnès b. brand has expanded beyond the confines of fashion to comprise galleries, an art newspaper, libraries and a film production company. The inspiration for the j'aime le cinéma! collection was Agnès's own life-long passion for the cinema, and her desire to share this passion with others.
