The Adventures of Antoine Doinel at the LOCO London Comedy Film Festival

From 11/04/2016 at 19:00 to 17/05/2016 at 21:30

Between 1959 and 1979, director François Truffaut and actor Jean-Pierre Léaud collaborated on four feature films and one short film that followed the life of Antoine Doinel from his stormy teens through marriage, children, divorce, and adulthood.

A superb tale about childhood and freedom Truffaut's debut feature contains a miraculously truthful performance from the teenage Léaud as the director's alter ego. A portrait of juvenile delinquency and an engagingly fresh work of art which was rewarded with a top prize at Cannes and an Oscar nomination for Best original screenplay.

Tue 19 Apr @ 8pm at Whirled Cinema (followed by Stolen Kisses)

Sun 24 Apr @ 2pm at Ciné Lumière (preceeded by The 400 Blows)

Léaud continues as Doinel, with age becoming more explicitly the director's alter ego. Just out of the army, Antoine tries (mostly disastrously) odd jobs, including detective and TV repairman, but is more concerned with his love life, hesitating between the young, prim Christine and the intimidating, sublimely chic married woman Fabienne Tabard.

Mon 25 Apr @ 8pm at Whirled Cinema

The fifth and last film in the Antoine Doinel saga, Love on the Run combines the romantic charm of the earlier films with an increased self-awareness. In addition to featuring Léaud in the Doinel role, and both Pisier (Colette) and Jade (Christine) acting as literal embodiments of the past movies, Love on the Run revels in flashbacks from the earlier films and Doinel, now divorced from Christine, is writing his second autobiographical novel.
