Alain Juppé

Alain Juppé will be in London on 20th May

20/05/2015 from 19:45 to 21:00

The maire of Bordeaux, Alain Juppé, will be visiting London on 20th May. He  is one of the contenders against François Fillon, Bruno Lemaire and Nicolas Sarkozy in the run up to next primary election due to take place on 20th and 27th November 2016 for the leadership of the Union of the right and the centre.

Nicolas Sarkozy who was elected with 64.5% of the votes at the last primary election. It would seem however, according to a recent poll carried out by Ifop for the Journal du Dimanche, that although he is still ahead of the pack, things might not be quite so straightforward this time.

This new poll, which included electors from the right and the centre, was intended to identify which of the potential candidates they would prefer. Amongst the UMP voters, more than 58% said they would prefer Nicolas Sarkozy to Alain Juppé who only received 22%. However, when combined with the other parties the gap narrowed dramatically between Sarkozy and Juppé. Nicolas Sarkozy still came top with 42% but Alain Juppé narrowed the gap, reaching 33%. As for Bruno Lemaire, he obtained 12% of the votes.

All is still to play for.
