Paris 1900-1950 : Spectacle-Concert

29/01/2015 from 19:30 to 22:00

This fascinating event recreates a ‘spectacle-concert’ originally promoted by the French poet Jean Cocteau on 21 February 1920 at the Comédie des Champs-Elysées. Featuring works by members of Les Six, a group of French composers formed under the influence of Erik Satie, the music transports audiences to the surrealist world of 1920s Paris. Performed by talented musicians from the Royal College of Music, this concert of truly spectacular works is one not to be missed!

A highlight of the programme is Les mariés de la tour Eiffel, a ballet score based on a wedding party held on the Eiffel Tower. Performed by the RCM Chamber Orchestra and featuring two speaking roles, the work follows the party as it is interrupted by a cyclist, a lion, a seaside bather, and even a hunter in pursuit of an ostrich…
