Discussion between Marc Dugain and Peter Guttridge
26/06/2014 from 18:00 to 19:00
On the occasion of the release of 'The Avenue of the Giants' inspired by the true story of California ‘Co-ed Killer’ Edmund Kemper, Marc Dugain will be discussing with Peter Guttridge.
The acclaimed author of 'The Officer’s Ward' (La Chambre des officiers) which won 20 literary prizes and was adapted on screen, Marc Dugain has always been interested in characters who are out of the ordinary, depicted against a background of contemporary history, like John Edgar Hoover, the ambiguous director of the FBI in 'La Malédiction d’Edgar' and Staline in 'Une exécution ordinaire'. His latest publication in the UK is a first-person narrative delving into the mind of a serial killer – a giant of over 7 feet tall with an IQ higher than Einstein’s – which manages to conjure up an America torn between the pacifism of the hippie movement and the violence of the Vietnam war. Dugain’s latest novel in France, 'L’Emprise', a psychological thriller that delves at the heart of the French political system, came out last April.
Former crime fiction critic at the Observer, Peter Guttridge is the current co-director of Books By The Beach – the Scarborough Book Festival – and the author of six comic novels deemed ‘essential reading’ by the Times, and of the gripping Brighton series, whose latest instalment, 'Those Who Feel Nothing', was published in May 2014.
