Clemens non Papa Consort

Clemens Non Papa Consort Concert on 3 April @ St Magnus The Martyr's church

03/04/2014 from 20:30 to 22:30

The baroque ensemble Clemens Non Papa Consort is offering a new concert of beautiful music, playing "Stabat Mater" (Pergolesi) and "Third Leçon de Ténèbres" (Couperin). With 8 talented musicians and their brilliant conductor, the ensemble will mesmerize St Magnus The Martyr's church.

With the dictum: Rediscovering Early Music, Clemens non Papa Consort was formed in 2004 with the purpose to perform music of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Periods with musicians on the cusp of their professional careers. With a focus on repertoire that is rare, undiscovered and under-performed at a very high artistic and professional level the consort has consistently entertained audiences and given young musicians valuable experience and opportunities.

The consort has had UK premieres with Iacobus Gallus Handl Missa Super Casta Novenarum and Alessandro Scarlatti's Vespro della Beata Vergine. Two world premieres with works by Stephen Knight Missa Jedi (parody Mass based on themes from John William’s Star Wars) and Russell Simpson (song cycle with words set to music by Rainer Maria Rilke). Other Performances have included: Messiah and Dixit Dominus by G.F. Händel, Christ lag in Todesbanden BWV 4 by J.S. Bach, Stabat Mater by. A. Scarlatti and cantatas by D. Buxtehude, A. Bertali and N. Bruhns. Operatic productions include H. Purcell’s Didio and Aeneas, G.F. Händel Aminta e Fillide  and a UK premiere of Giovanni Bononcini’s Cefalo e Procride.

Clemens non Papa Consort is the resident consort of St. Magnus the Martyr, London Bridge.
