The Annual French-Language-Loving Festival at The Cockpit from 29th October to 10th November 2013.
London is the 5th largest French speaking city today and this festival aims to celebrate the French-language-loving artists and companies that merge cultures together through their art form.
Over twelve days, The Cockpit will be hosting double-bill plays in the evening and fun, cultural classes and workshops in the daytime.
Plays, children's shows, book signings, an opera, a live radio show, as well as an improvised comedy night are all part of the plan.
Most companies are based in London such as Tour de Force which will be opening the festival with their production of Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme and Exchange Theatre who are working on a new piece for this festival. New emerging companies such as Two Tongue Theatre and RT Productions with London-based French-speaking actors will be present. Moving Theatre will record their radio play live with your laughter, the French-British league of Improvisation (FBI) will treat you with their witty impro nights and Cabarera will delight you with a hilarious stand up comedy acts!
The Conservatoire de Strasbourg and Jolly Good Show will be presenting their bilingual dance-theatre show "Turkey Carpet" and the touring company Tour Sans Frontières will perform family matinées of their original show "Le Moulin Magique".
You'll also find the amateur actor company Tamisenscene and Psyche DELIGHT on the programme, and don't miss the "Meet the Artist" session with Quebec artist Mathieu Beausejour!
Christine Bovill will take over the space on the last Saturday with her tribute to Edith Piaf and busking musicians will enchant your ears with French tunes at every interval!
Rehearsed readings and book signings will be organised by the publishers EMUE and an afternoon of Beckett and a presentation of his French works is planned to close the festival.
Daytimes will be packed with fun, educational, recreational and tongue twisting classes and courses. From drama courses and voice classes in French, to french lessons with "Speak Frog", without forgetting the French Slang class, and the FairyTale sessions in French for kids from 2 to 8 years old.
An original interactive session is planned too by The Flock : Be part of a touring theatre company for an hour and discover what it's like being behind the scenes, and finish the tour by performing your own improvised 5 minute play - in French!
This festival will showcase the best of French-language-loving companies who pride themselves in bringing French speaking cultures from around the world to London all year round - and VOILA! is uniting them in one place for a whole 12 days!
