Poulenc's opera La Voix Humaine & Labiche's comedy, Le Baron de Fourchevif

From 25/04/2013 at 18:30 to 27/04/2013 at 18:30

The Cercle Dramatique Francais de Londres (CDF) presents its 2013 show. This year’s show includes an exceptional performance by soprano Elise Lefay, in a Francis Poulenc opera: La Voix Humaine (literally, the Human Voice) with English subtitles.

In the second act, CDF actors will perform a laugh-out-loud comedy by Labiche: Le Baron de Fourchevif (literally The Baron of Sharp-Pitchfork). The Potard family will have to pull all the strings to keep their titles of baron and baroness which they acquired when buying the Fourchevif manor. The play will be performed in French with no subtitles.

About the opera

La Voix Humaine is a one-in-a-kind, one character opera with an enigmatic monologue by Jacques Cocteau. The audience witnesses a telephone conversation between a woman and the man she loves; and with rousing curiosity guesses little bit little the situation in which the woman is. The opera is directed by Nikolas Sodiant who brings a brand new perspective on this personal drama.

Elise Lefay

Elise Lefay, specialist in French post-romantic repertoire explains: “When we started working on the character in La Voix Humaine with Nikolas, we quickly realised that the artistic quality of the project would depend on the distance we would take with past performances; and that the opera had an unlimited creative potential. We are very proud of the gaze we have on this woman who’s suffering is equally universal and anecdotal.”
