Angelique Kidjo + Fatoumata Diawara
08/03/2013
Grammy Award-winning Beninese singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo returns to Southbank Centre by popular demand after her sell-out gig in 2012.
Angelique Kidjo is one of West Africa's most celebrated artists. Acclaimed by Time magazine as 'Africa's premier diva', she was ranked by the BBC in its list of the continent's 50 most iconic figures. The Guardian named her as one of its Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World.
She's collaborated with Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel, Amadou and Mariam and many more.
Kidjo is joined by Mali-born Fatoumata Diawara. Her acclaimed first album 'Fatou' was voted The Sunday Times' number 1 world music album of 2011 and WMCE's album of the year.
Diawara also featured in 'Nothin' Can Save Ya' from Bobby Womack's 'The Bravest Man in The Universe' album.
