The Black Count by Tom Reiss
Book launch

free Tom Reiss talks about the Real Count of Monte Cristo at Dulwich Books

25/10/2012 from 19:30 to 21:00

Tom Reiss will be appearing at Dulwich Books on Thursday 25th October at 7.30pm to discuss his new book, The Black Count: Revolution, Betrayal and the Real Count of Monte Cristo.

The Black Count in question is none other than the father of the famous French novelist Alexandre Dumas, author of The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers. The Black Count is a well-researched account of how the details of his father’s life informed Dumas’ novels, providing him with plenty of swashbuckling material.

The Black Count is also a riveting adventure story, a lushly textured evocation of 18th-century France, and a window into the modern world’s first multi-racial society.

Simon Sebag Montefiore says of the book “totally thrilling… brilliant story”

Tom Reiss is the author of the celebrated international bestseller The Orientalist, which was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize. He writes for The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.
