Amlin Challenge Cup Final

Amlin Challenge Cup Final

18/05/2012 from 20:00 to 00:00

The Amlin Challenge Cup final is one of European club rugby’s showpiece matches of the year – and the 2012 final at Twickenham Stoop on Friday, 18 May (20:00) will see the coveted silverware heading for France.

Biarritz Olympique and Toulon have battled their way through to the prestigious final which will launch organisers ERC’s weekend of high quality action with the Heineken Cup final between Leinster Rugby and Ulster Rugby played at Twickenham Stadium the following day.

The Amlin Challenge Cup tournament is now in its 16th season and both Biarritz and Toulon are chasing their first European titles, Biarritz having contested two Heineken Cup finals and Toulon the 2010 Amlin final.

Toulon, under their South African international flanker Joe van Niekerk, have a squad full of world class players like England’s 2003 World Cup winner and outside half Jonny Wilkinson, fellow England international flanker Steffon Armitage, All Blacks prop Carl Hayman and Australian star centre Matt Giteau.

Lining up against them will be Biarritz stalwarts and 2011 World Cup finalists scrum half Dimitri Yachvili and No 8 Imanol Harinordoquy along with fellow internationals Damien Traille and Sylvain Marconnet and former England and Lions full back Iain Balshaw.

Toulon’s route to the final included knocking out holders Harlequins and Stade Français Paris while Biarritz have come through against London Wasps and Brive.

Now the stage is set for these two great sides to go head-to-head in the battle for the Amlin Challenge Cup title and automatic qualification for next season’s Heineken Cup.
