free Political Debate about French Presidential elections

24/04/2012 from 18:00 to 20:00

The Franco-British Connections, the Franco-British Society and the King's College London Politics Society are very pleased to invite you to their next event: a political debate about French elections.

As the Presidential elections approach in France, here in the UK, French citizens will have the right to elect their own MPs, thanks to legislation passed by the French parliament.

For the first time, legislative elections (to be held in June) will effectively elect an
MP for Northern Europe. A closely fought race is currently taking place in London between the candidates for Northern Europe, a constituency incorporating ten countries including the UK where the majority of the voters lives.

A distinguished panel will discuss relevant issues and answer your questions. The panel includes Lord Grenfell, candidates for Northern Europe from different parties (Olivier Cadic, Axelle Lemaire from the Parti Socialiste and Yannick Naud from the Modem) , Bénédicte Paviot (Anglo-French TV/Radio journalist for France24); and an academic from King's College London, Dr Wolfreys. Subjects to be addressed include Franco-British relations, international issues, representation of French citizens abroad, and the eurozone.

The debate will take place on Tuesday 24th April at Edmund Safra Theatre, King's, College London, Strand, London WC2R 2LS (Nearest Tube: Temple). The panel discussion will begin at 6pm to 8pm, followed by a wine reception until 9pm.
