Melanie Pain

C'est Royal!

30/01/2012 from 20:00 to 23:00

The Royal Albert Hall presents a night of music celebrating the very best in French contemporary artists. Featuring Phoebe Kildeer (Nouvelle Vague) and The Short Straws, Melanie Pain (Nouvelle Vague) & Maxence Cyrin the evening promises to showcase a variety of French talent.

Phoebe Killdeer, lead vocalist of Phoebe Killdeer & the Short Straws, first gained attention in 2004 when she lent her voice to '80s pop ballads and reprises of new wave classics for the group Nouvelle Vague. She was featured as a vocalist on several tracks on the second Nouvelle Vague album, Bande à Part, and toured widely with the group. Before covering songs with Nouvelle Vague or working with the Short Straws, Killdeer offered up her singing skills to several prominent electronic artists, including Zero dB for their track Sunshine Lazy and Basement Jaxx, with whom she performed the song Tonight for their Kish Kash album.

Mélanie Pain is best known as the lead singer of the French band Nouvelle Vague who has been seducing millions around the world with her breathy renditions of 80s pop. Now the talented chanteuse also turns her musical charms to a solo career with her very impressive debut album My Name.

Maxence Cyrin is a classically trained French pianist currently residing in Paris. His latest album Modern Rhapsodies is homage to electronic music. Maxence, accompanied only by his piano, has restyled Windowlicker from Aphex Twin, Behind The Wheel from Depeche Mode and Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy. Maxence will perform his new album The Fantasist, self-portrait retro-futurist mixing piano compositions, strings and vintage synthesisers. His classical, psychedelic and electronic influences collide to form the soundtrack of an imaginary but resolutely modern and daring movie.
