Emmanuel Carrère & Tibor Fischer on Identity - On the 29th September, at the Institut Français

29/09/2010 from 19:30 to 21:00

'Madness and horror have always been my obsessions. The books I have written are just about that. After writing The Adversary I couldn't handle it any longer. I just wanted to run away' (Emmanuel Carrère). Determined to escape the bleak visions of his narratives, Emmanuel Carrère embarks on a trip to Kotelnich, a small post-Soviet town, to shoot a documentary. A Russian Novel (Serpent’s Tail, translated by Linda Coverdale) is his first overtly autobiographical work.
The son of Hungarian refugees, Tibor Fischer 's novel, Under the Frog was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1993. He is the author of four other novels, The Thought Gang, The Collector Collector,Voyage to the End of the Room and Good to be God as well as a collection of short stories Don’t Read This Book If You’re Stupid. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, his work has been published in twenty-five languages.
