Francis le Bras
Born in 1955, Francis Le Bras started to study classical piano, before been initiated into jazz by great pianists Michel Grailler and Bernard Maury, who gave him the passion of harmony.
Until 1995, He was entertaining at The Croque-Notes Jazz Club in Reims, where he used to play with Serge Lazarévitch and  Olivier Cahours, amongst others.

Now he shares his time between his own musical work, his role as artistic director of several festivals (Reims Jazz Festival, Jazz autour des Flâneries Musicales de Reims), and the Jazz History and Improvisation Course he teaches at the Music University.

He currently plays in Vincent Courtois « Rose Manivelle : The New Rose » and in his own main projects for which he also composes : ALATA, a jazz-electro quartet, a duo with german saxophonist Daniel Erdmann and a collaboration with great storyteller and slammer André Ze Jam Afane.

How they describe their duo:

The duo is the best way to expose the complicity of two improvisers, but it can’t work without a perfect mutual
confidence of the partners.
The association of saxophonist Daniel Erdmann & pianist Francis Le Bras is the crossing and the addition of two universes, harmony and melodie, of two conceptions of music and improvisation.
Here, artistic freedom allows the two stories told to go by their own way before merging at the best moment.

« They roam the range of possibilities, from a clear and romantic line to some darker harmonic digressions, from moments nearly in silence to others where the noise from the worlds reverberates, without ever falling into the easy of use of old formulas. »
Jacques Denis – Jazzman

« ...demanding inspiration and listening, mastership of improvisation. A kind balancing act. Taking ones place and leaving his own to his partner. You need to be a great musician to achieve such a subtle mix. [...] Created at a meeting in Reims, this formula seduces by its richness and the intensity of a vibrant history they like to talk about. No effects of styles and sophisticated atmospheres but just a crude moment of shared music. »
Jean-Marc Gelin - Les dernières Nouvelles du Jazz
