Louise Bourgeois
1911-2010
Louise Bourgeois, the famous French artist, has just died of a heart attack, in New York where she had lived and worked. Louise Bourgeois was born in December 1911.
She moved to New York in 1938. Her career developed slowly and success finally came when she was in her 60s. It was not until 1982 that she had her own restrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in NY. This was the very first it had mounted of a woman artist. This was to be the exhibition that was going to transform her from a well-known artist to a grande dame.
