‘For me there is neither past nor future in art,’ said Picasso, who never stopped pitting himself against the works of the great masters and those of his contemporaries.
He was fascinated by the realism and expressive force of the German artists Grünewald, Altdorfer, Baldung Grien, and particularly, Lucas Cranach.
Diana Widmaier Picasso will discuss the impact on Picasso of Cranach’s eroticism, energy and prodigious draughtsmanship.
