Orchestre National d'Ile de France

From 25/03/2009 to 25/04/2009 at 00:59

On 24th April at 7.30pm at the Cadogan Hall.

Orchestre National d'Ile de France

Created in 1974 by the French government and the Région Île-de-France, the orchestra has become one of the busiest and best loved in Northern France. They will perform three of the best known works from the French early twentieth Century repertoire starting with Ravel’s Mother Goose Ballet Suite. Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme introduces the young Russian cellist, Tatjana Vassiljeva, a prize-winner at the International Pablo Casals Competition in 2000. After the interval they play another contemporary, Debussy’s La Mer, evoking the sea, the movement of the waves and the patter of droplets of spray. Finally, Ravel’s contemporary, Stravinsky, arranged the Firebird Suite from his own ballet music, first performed in 1910 at the Opera in Paris.

Programme:

Ravel: Mother Goose Suite
Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo
Debussy: La Mer
Stravinsky: Firebird Suite (1919)
