Galvin Bistro de Luxe
On the old site of Alan Yau's short-lived Italian eaterie Anda, the first self-owned restaurant from chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin seems set to become the first eatery to make a culinary destination out of traffic-ridden Baker Street. Both the decor - a smart set-up of bistro chairs, leather banquettes and dark wood-panelling - and the food resound with Gallic charm. While both brothers boast superb pedigrees - Chris is ex-exec chef of The Wolseley and Orrery, while Jeff is former chief cook of L’Escargot - here they've toned down their formal, complex cooking styles in favour of simple bourgeois classics that are expertly sauced, seasoned, portioned and elegantly presented.
