Day 15 : Ten gold medals for France !
Day 15 : Ten gold medals for France !
Julie Bresset won France's 10th gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics after sealing victory in the women's mountain biking.
Best of the day : Julie Bresset
The 23-year-old mountain biker delivered a tremendous performance at her first ever Olympics as she cruised to victory with a sensational ride finishing ahead of defending gold medallist Sabine Spitz of Germany and Georgia Gould of the United States. Bresset took the lead early in the race, then took advantage of a mistake by Spitz and then gradually pulled away from the rest of the field, rolling through the last of six laps all by herself. Bresset's victory could be just the start for France as Julien Absalon will attempt to win an unprecedented third straight gold medal in the men's race.
Flop of the day :
In the fastest race ever, two-time European Champion Yohan Diniz could only achieve eighth place. The Frenchman made most of the 50 kilometers in the leading group but had to cope with a nasty fall quite close to the end. After the race, it turned even worse for Diniz as he was disqualified for refreshing himself out of the zone. Definitely a day to be forgotten!
Number of the day : 2.
For the second time in Olympic history, the USA prevented France from winning its first title in basketball. The American superstars won the final 86-50, but this should not tarnish the French women’s unbelievable campaign which lead them to this impressive match having won all their previous matches.
