France's new shirt: French Football Does Fashion
After the scandal, shame and humiliation that was France’s participation in the 2010 World Cup, Nike and the French Football Federation are doing their utmost to spruce up the team’s disastrous image. They launched their partnership earlier this year in January under the campaign title “Vive le Football Libre”.
So here it is, the French Team’s new kit: a sleek, blue and white striped Mariniere which, in their words “captures the spirit of the Team whilst bringing superior performance innovation and unparalleled elegance on the pitch.
The jersey has a tailored fit that allows freedom of movement on pitch. The lightweight fabric features Nike Dri-FIT technology and engineered ventilation systems to help keep players cool, coupled with ergonomic cut and soft cotton feel for player comfort.
But aren’t you a bit behind the times boys? The mariniere- or “Breton stripe” as the fashion crowd calls it- has already been the thing to be seen in for at least two years now, and that’s quite a while in fashion years.
In fact, the humble sailors stripe is now so ubiquitous as to almost be a little ( whisper it) past it. But no matter, King Karl has, as always, jumped to the rescue by signing his name on the photo. And as we all know, this now makes it undeniably, unquestionably cool: for where Karl goes, the rest of us can merely follow in the wake of his little feet.
The Shirt will go on sale from 26th March and will be available on pre-order from 11th March.
Will you be buying one?
