The 63rd Cannes Film Festival - Official Selection
12 - 23 May 2010

The Brits will be happy to learn that this year, Kristin Scott-Thomas, has been given the very demanding role of Mistress of Ceremony. As for Tim Burton, well known for his quirky-themed films such as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow or more recently, Alice in Wonderland, he will be President of the Jury.
Of course, you may have already heard of the latest Ridley Scott's movie Robin Hood with Russell Crowe as Robin Hood and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. The film has been chosen to open the Festival and will be coming out in France on the same day. We will have to wait a few more days to have the pleasure of seeing it. as it will not be rolled out across the world until 14th May.

Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe first worked together over 10 years ago on the hit movie Gladiator. Since then, they have collaborated many times, including 2008's Body of Lies and wine comedy A Good Year (2006), with Marion Cotillard although both have proved less successful.
It is only Scott's third appearance at the French festival. His early work, The Duellists, appeared in competition in 1977, winning the Best First Work award. Thelma and Louise screened out of competition in 1991. Note however that Robin Hood is out of the competition.
It is also to be noted that Claire Denis, one of France's greatest film directors and the Canadian Atom Egoyan will also have a major part to play as Jury President of Un Certain Regard and Cine Foundation/Short Films respectively.
Julie Bertucelli ’s film, The Tree, with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Marton Csokas and Aden Young, will be presented at the Closing Ceremony of the 63rd Festival de Cannes. Shot in Australia, the film is an adaptation of Judy Pascoe’s novel, "Our Father Who Art in the Tree".
The film will be screened on Sunday May 23rd once the Award ceremony, presided by the American filmmaker Tim Burton, is over.

Claire Denis's latest film, White Material with With Isabelle Huppert, Christopher Lambert and Nicolas Duvauchelle, will be released in the UK on 2nd July.
