Tour de France : Stages 1 and 2

By Etienne Bennequin
07/07/2014

The Tour de France started last weekend with two of its three English stages from Leeds to Harrogate then from York to Sheffield.

The first stage was won by the German Kittel who was immediately followed by the Slovak Sagan, the Lithuanian Navardauskas and the French Coquard. Mark Cavendish, the leader of the Omega Pharma team, who had his right shoulder badly injured when he fell in the last kilometre was prevented from taking part in the second stage and hed to give up.

Vincenzo Nibali was first crossing the finish line at that second stage and confirmed that he could be Froome's and Contador’s main contender this year. The later riders are respectively 5th and 8th in the overall ranking.

The selfiemania was at the forefront in the first days of this Tour, and some people even stood in the road to take pictures of themself thus irritating the racers.
